ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Gordon (Gary) Bowell was born in 1918 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and grew up in Nelson, a small town in the West Kootenay mountain region of B.C. He has a B.A. in economics and history from Queens University, Canada, a Rhodes scholarship, and a Harvard M.B.A. He was editor for several years of a small newspaper, followed by four years in Europe, in the Canadian Artillery during World War Two. Major Bowell was awarded the M.B.E. (member of the Order of the British Empire) for his wartime services.
He was CEO of two leading Canadian forest products companies, and lectured frequently across Canada on his industry. He had a life-long interest in writing; in study to find a new approach to peacemaking; in the lives of the Nobel Peace Laureates; in the United Nations; and in the failures of state government peacemaking throughout the twentieth century. He and his wife Frances (née Webb) lived in Vancouver, and traveled frequently, meeting the citizens of many countries.
Gary Bowell passed away on January 31, 2007.
